APPOINTMENTS

The process begins with a telephone intake, during which preliminary information is gathered, arrangements are made to collect parent and teacher questionnaires and rating scales, and appointments are scheduled for:

  1. parent/child interviews,

  2. testing (usually 8 to 9 hours),

  3. a parent feedback session

Typically, during the first appointment, initial interviews are conducted and the child begins testing. Testing is usually concluded during a second testing session; however, third sessions are sometimes needed.

After tests are scored and analyzed, a parent feedback meeting is held to review findings and discuss recommendations.  This is usually scheduled within two weeks following the completion of testing.  A follow-up appointment at a later time may be arranged for further discussion or to explain the results to the child.

A written report follows the feedback session, generally within 3 weeks.

INSURANCES ACCEPTED

Dr. Parnell is a provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tufts, and United Health Care.  The office will assist in determining coverage for each individual insurance plan and obtaining information regarding out-of-network reimbursement from other insurance companies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT TESTING SESSIONS

Dr. Parnell conducts all testing.

Testing is usually scheduled in the morning. Saturday mornings are often available.

Typically there are one to two breaks during each testing session, with more provided if needed. During the breaks, the child may enjoy a snack and/or play a game.

Parents may remain in the waiting room during testing session or leave their child once the child is comfortable.  A parent is encouraged to remain in the waiting room or in the local area during the testing with younger children (through age 8) so that the parent is present during breaks.

Generally parents are not in the testing room. However, if a child is very anxious, a parent may remain at the outset of the testing until he/she becomes comfortable.
